MARCH 2010
parents_league_email-from_the_director Judy Maggard The spring semester, as always, has bloomed into a flurry of academic and extracurricular activities at Baylor. Our seniors are busy putting the finishing touches on their Baylor careers, while our second semester freshmen are beginning to realize how quickly their first year is passing.

The university community owes a deep debt of gratitude to Interim President David Garland for his outstanding leadership these past 17 months. He has proven to be an effective leader for this time in Baylor's history. We look forward to welcoming Judge Ken Starr as the 14th president of Baylor on June 1. I hope you will enjoy learning more about his growing love for Baylor University in this issue of Perspectives.

I am proud to share with you that Baylor University hosted the Big 12 Parent Programs Conference in February. The agenda included current and emerging topics of interest in the area of parent programming, as well as affording us the opportunity to talk about how to better serve parents, and in turn, enhancing the student experience in our respective universities. Of course, we were proud to share our beautiful campus and facilities with our visitors, as well as attending All University Sing!

Sic 'em Bears,
Judy Maggard

Introducing Baylor's 14th President: Judge Ken Starr

Ken StarrWith only a few months until he joins Baylor as President, Judge Ken Starr is spending his time learning as much as he can about the Baylor family. And, in turn, the Baylor family is learning more and more about the leadership of Judge Starr.

From the classroom to the courtroom, he has had a distinguished career in academia, law and public service.

Bears Provide Much-Needed Help for Haiti

HaitiThe response to the disaster in Haiti was immediate and overwhelming. Students, faculty and staff at Baylor readily participated in relief efforts and initiated several creative opportunities to help those in dire need.

Offering skills, talents and even T-shirts, these events encouraged the community and offered aid to a country in crisis, keeping the reality of Haiti close to home.

Internships: A Bridge to the Future

A teacher…a doctor…a firefighter…or even a lawyer... Chances are, you have heard them all. Before your child could read or write, he or she dreamt about what to do as a grown-up.

Now, the time has come to choose which dreams will become reality. The first step? Internships. Diving into a variety of opportunities helps your student discover where he/she will thrive…and gain the skills to get there.
