Green Scholars Initiative

Formed in the summer of 2010, the Green Scholars Initiative brings together established and young scholars to produce new scholarship on items in The Green Collection, the world's largest private collection of biblical texts and artifacts. While the Green Scholars Initiative remains independent of any one college or university, the initiative's main undergraduate program is based at Baylor University's Institute for the Study of Religion, where over a dozen research projects are currently underway. In the department of Classics, Jeff Fish and Simon Burris are directing a group of students studying papyrus fragments of Homer and lyric poetry from the Greek archaic period. As part of our proposed program, we will imitate the model of the Green Scholars Initiative by prioritizing the undergraduate research experience and emphasizing the development of partnerships between senior and young scholars studying Latin and Roman culture.
