About the Seminar

There are various management and administrative training programs across the country today that relate broadly to the higher education community. However, these mainstream leadership programs, while certainly valuable, do not provide a suitable context for addressing the mission-distinctive aspects so critical to Christian higher education. Over the years, the Christian Higher Education Leadership Seminar has provided leadership development opportunities for hundreds of academic administrators in Christian colleges and universities from around the world. The seminar is hosted by Baylor School of Education and is sponsored by the International Association of Baptist Colleges and Universities (IABCU). Geared towards faculty, deans, program heads, and future administrators in Christian institutions of higher education, the seminar covers a wide range of issues from leadership principles, to institutional culture and Christian identity, to conflict resolution, to the nuts and bolts of day-to-day administration and legal issues. The program features a balanced mix of speakers, participant discussion, and other interactive methods.

The future of the institutions served by Baylor's Christian Higher Education Seminar rises or falls in relation to strong and faithful leadership in the top administrative positions. It is hoped that this arena for leadership development will continue to sustain and enliven our Christian institutions of higher education for many years to come. Dates for the next seminar are May 17-20, 2020.

 

2020 Seminar Program and Cost

The seminar will feature an outstanding group of speakers with a broad range of experience in university administration. To get a feel for the seminar, please look at the 2020 program.

Baylor University has recently launched a new undertaking around the theme of Light (baylor.edu/lights). Baylor desires to be a place that helps others flourish. The Christian Higher Education Leadership Seminar is purposed to help Christian leaders flourish. Therefore, we do not want cost prohibiting any institution from participating. To demonstrate our commitment, we are making the cost of the seminar variable: we ask participants to pay what their institution/department can support. The registration cost covers all meals, lodging on campus, and the costs associated with the seminar itself. We understand that the variable rate is unorthodox; our intention is that finances do not prohibit any Christian leader from receiving the professional development that this seminar offers. To register for the seminar, please fill out the registration form. The registration deadline is April 15th (There will be no refunds after April 1st).
