Clinical Associate Professor, Director of Admissions - Occupational Therapy Department

Dr. Mary Beth Patnaude earned a Master of Science degree in Occupational Therapy from Columbia University in 1997. She earned a Doctor of Health Science degree in Occupational Therapy from the University of Indianapolis in 2019. Her dissertation research focused on curriculum mapping and accreditation for entry level occupational therapy programs.

Since 1997, Dr. Patnaude has had the privilege of providing occupational therapy services in almost every clinical setting. She began her career in pediatrics at the New York City Board of Education. She also provided home based early intervention services. She went on to provide home based services to adults.  She also has experience in inpatient settings along the entire health care continuum, in skilled nursing facilities, acute rehabilitation, inpatient acute care, inpatient acute psychiatry,  and the intensive care unit. Finally, her most recent clinical experience has been in outpatient orthopedic rehabilitation.

She has been working full time as an occupational therapy educator since 2013. The focus of her teaching has been primarily in adult rehabilitation, kinesiology, neuroscience, and intervention-based courses. In addition, she has taught occupational analysis, communication, and research courses. 

Dr. Patnaude has authored several textbook chapters and is the primary editor of two textbooks. She has presented at local and national conferences. Her research interests include the scholarship of teaching and learning in relation to experiential education and overuse injury prevention for health professionals. She currently serves as a member of the American Occupational Therapy Association Model Curriculum Committee.
