Online Clinical Outreach Director and Clinical Assistant Professor of  Communication Sciences and Disorders

Steven Moates joined the Communication Sciences and Disorders Department as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Fall of 2019. He completed Clinical Doctorate of Speech-Language Pathology at Nova Southeastern University. Prior to coming to Baylor University, Dr. Moates was the Director of Clinical Education at Samford University in Birmingham and Clinical Placement Coordinator at the University of Montana. He also has 15 years of experience in a school setting in Alabama and Georgia. Dr. Moates currently serves as a Clinical Outreach Director for the Speech@Baylor online program.

  • Doctor of Speech-Language Pathology – Nova Southeastern University (2017).
  • Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology – University of Montevallo (2000)
  • Bachelor of Arts in Communication Science and Disorders – Auburn University at Montgomery (1998)

Academic Interests and Research:

Dr. Moates’ research has focused on the perceived effectiveness of supervisory behaviors and supervisory attitudes towards the supervision of SLPAs in the schools. His research interests are in the areas of fluency, clinical supervision, clinical education, and rural clinical services.
