Shatonda S. Jones, PhD, CCC-SLP, CBIST has taught in higher education for 11 years and has practiced speech-language pathology for more than 15 years. Dr. Jones specializes in adults and geriatrics with neurogenic communication and swallowing disorders with a particular interest in stroke survivors and their families. She also has an interest in health promoting behaviors in individuals who are homeless. Dr. Jones is a Certified Brain Injury Specialist Trainer through the Academy of Certified Brain Injury Specialists (ACBIS) and also completed the Stanford University Internet Based Successful Aging Mini-Fellowship (iSage) in ethnogeriatrics. She has served on the Continuing Education Board for ASHA and as Vice President for Clinical Services for the Missouri Speech Language Hearing Association. Dr. Jones is currently the co-editor of the Praxis Section of Jesuit Higher Education: A Journal, is a participant in the inaugural ASHA Faculty Development Institute (AFDI), and is working to complete the requirements to become a site visitor. In her spare time, Dr. Jones enjoys taking Korean Language classes and spending time with her cat, Madison. 

 

Academic Interests and Research:

Clinical Interests: Adult and geriatric motor speech disorders, dysphagia, and aphasia due to stroke, traumatic brain injury, and neurodegenerative conditions.

Research Interests: Diffusion of innovation theory applications to health education and health behavior, vowel merger, anticipated response to health threats, edutainment in the promotion of positive health behaviors, community health, scholarship of teaching and learning in communication sciences and disorders.
