Adjunct Professor, Online Program - Speech Language Pathology

Dr. Nicole Niessen is an adjunct professor for Baylor University’s Communication Sciences and Disorders online graduate program. Prior to her work at Baylor, Dr. Niessen taught for the Curriculum and Instruction department at Wichita State University. Her focus was on teaching language arts, literacy, linguistics, and reading specialist courses. She also served as an elementary liaison, working with area schools and supervising elementary education teacher education candidates (i.e., student teachers).

Dr. Niessen also worked in the Wichita State University Speech-Language and Hearing Clinic as a clinical educator and director of the Kaleidoscope Preschool, housed within the SPLH Clinic. In addition to teaching at the collegiate level, she worked in the preschool setting, at Rainbows United, Inc., a school for children ages birth through 5 years of age, with and without special needs. Additionally, as a private-practice speech-language pathologist, Dr. Niessen has conducted assessments and interventions with children ages birth through adolescence with a variety of communication and literacy needs.

Academic Interests and Research

Dr. Niessen’s areas of focus have been on language development and disorders in children ages birth through adolescence. Her passion for understanding the foundations of literacy and helping students who struggle with reading and writing is a blessing that continues to grow! It is Dr Niessen’s hope that she can pass along her love for language and literacy to future Speech-Language Pathologists.

Isaiah 40:30-31 - Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;   they will run and not grow weary,    they will walk and not be faint.
