Mario A. Benitez
Professor Mario Benitez served in the College of Education of the University of Texas system from l980 until his retirement in l997. He graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Philosophy and magna cum laude with his Licenciate in Philosophy from the Universidad de Comillas in Spain. Dr. Benitez also holds a Master of Arts degree in Spanish and linguistics from Texas Christian University, a Doctor en Filosofia y Letras degree in humanities and sociology from Universidad de la Habana, a Master of Education degree from Texas Wesleyan College and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in philosophy and education from Claremont Graduate School.After teaching stints at Texas Wesleyan College and Texas A&I University (now Texas A&M University at Kingsville), Professor Benitez joined the College of Education at the University of Texas at San Antonio as a professor of bicultural-bilingual studies. In l983, he was named a professor of curriculum and instruction at the University of Texas at Austin, serving as chair of the department from l985-l989. Dr. Benitez was awarded the Distinguished Teaching Professorship in l995. He has received several teaching awards as well as written four books, 11 articles and over 30 papers.
