About this Event

The Baylor Center for Christian Music Studies will host a virtual book launch featuring "The Gift of Music" honoring retired professor of church music, David W. Music. Over his forty-year academic career, Dr. Music has become widely known as a prolific scholar, a gifted editor, a notable hymn arranger, and a wise mentor. His areas of expertise include congregational song, American church music, music of the Reformation, and Baptist church music. In 2010, he was named a Fellow of the Hymn Society of the United States and Canada, and in 2018 he received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Baptist Church Music Conference. In addition to his distinguished academic career, he has spent a number of years in full- and part-time church music ministry. Join us for this celebration of David's legacy via Zoom in February.

About this Publication

For over forty years, David W. Music has studied, taught, researched, and published numerous books, articles, and musical compositions for use in the church. In this book, fellow experts in the field pay homage to the gift of Music with contributions on congregational song, the work of the Christian musician, historical studies, and the life and work of David Music himself. Church music is richer today due to scholars such as those represented in this volume, and students and scholars alike will appreciate these essays for the information they reveal and the discussions they initiate.
