The Hearn Innovators in Christian Music Series, made possible by an endowment created through the generosity of Billy Ray Hearn, is designed to bring innovators in the field of Christian music to Baylor's campus and facilitate close interaction between the guest presenter and Baylor's students. These special visitors may be involved in the practice, creation, or study of Christian music. Presenters are on campus for a three- to four-day residency and are available to speak in classes, make public presentations, and visit with students in small group settings. This year's guests are Amanda Powell (Fall) and John Woods (Spring)
John Woods serves as Music & Worship Pastor for the Dawson Family of Faith, providing leadership in a variety of areas including music, the arts, and liturgy. He is passionate about the marriage of the timeless and timely, providing the congregation with an authentic voice in worship. John attended Baylor University and received a Bachelor of Music in Church Music, later receiving a Master of Music in Church Music with an emphasis in choral conducting from Baylor University and a Master of Divinity in Theology from George W. Truett Theological Seminary. John wants corporate worship — specifically that Sunday morning slot — to matter. When there’s time, John likes cluttering up his Mac, reading Dan Brown, listening to “This American Life,” traveling with his wife Lindsay and children Hudson, Emma, and Mason, and exploring the intersection of music, faith, liturgy and community.
