New Quizzes in Canvas

August 10, 2020
The New Quizzes feature will be coming to Canvas during the week of August 17 for faculty who are interested in experimenting with it in the fall semester. New Quizzes is being made available this fall for testing purposes only and is not yet recommended for regular use in courses unless there is a specific need for the new functionality.

New Quizzes is a new assessment engine that integrates with Canvas as an LTI tool and will eventually replace the Classic Quizzes functionality currently in Canvas. Instructors can use New Quizzes to create assessments using a variety of new questions types. New Quizzes assessments will display as assignments in the Assignments page, and New Quizzes will be available to students just like the existing Classic Quizzes.

In July 2021, New Quizzes is scheduled replace Classic Quizzes as the default testing engine in Canvas, but both New and Classic quizzes will be available through the upcoming Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 semesters. To enable New Quizzes in one of your courses after August 17, you will need to enable the appropriate Feature Option by clicking on Settings > Feature Options, and then use the toggle next to New Quizzes. Once enabled, you will have a choice between New Quizzes and Classic Quizzes each time you create a quiz in your Canvas course.
