Are there tryouts for your team?

Yes, but they are not to determine if you can be on the team. This is part of the process for creating what we’d consider our nationals line-up, but anyone is welcome to be a part of our team! Even if you don’t want to compete against other schools, please come bond with us at social events, practice with us, and attend tournaments! We will never stop anyone from joining our team.

What are the expectations for the time commitment once on the team?

The time commitment is fairly lenient. Currently, we have three 2-hour practices per week, with an optional social event roughly every other week. We would be thrilled if everyone was able to attend every practice, but that isn’t feasible for most students. Two thirds of the practices per week is recommended for anyone competitive collegiately.

How many days and hours/week do you practice?

Our practices are Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 6-8pm.

Typically where are your games/practices held?

Our practices are held at Minglewood Bowl (just outside of Brooks dining hall) and we host our tournaments on the Rugby fields near the BSB (or rather, the rugby teams plays on the quidditch fields).

What schools do you compete against? What league are you in?

We compete in the collegiate division of US Quidditch and Texas Quidditch Conference. Some of our major rivals include: University of Texas, Texas A&M, Sam Houston State, and Texas State.

What are the dues for this club team?

We do everything in our power to keep dues low, they are currently only $50 per semester!

When is your season? Do you practice in the off-season?

We practice throughout the school year and compete in both official and unofficial tournaments as early as September and as late as April. It is also typical for some teams to host summer tournaments, so there is always quidditch to be played! As a team, we do not practice outside of the school year.

Do you need to have read Harry Potter to join?

Not at all! A majority of the team does have a healthy interest in the Harry Potter books and movies, but it is hardly a requirement to join us and have a fantastic time!
