The ROCK is Baylor's 53 ft., free-standing rock climbing structure located in the McLane Student Life Center. Students, faculty, staff, and their guests are encouraged to climb the ROCK during SLC operating hours.
The ROCK offers 30(+) top-rope climbs ranging in difficulty from 5.5 to 5.13 for the beginner, intermediate and advanced climber. The ROCK includes several sport lead routes as well as a natural climbing area for participants to practice their crack climbing skills.
The ROCK includes the Baylor Climbing Center featuring a separate 13 ft. bouldering section, with problems ranging in difficulty from V0 to V8. Bouldering problems challenge climbers to solve more strenuous routes while remaining low to the ground.
Baylor Outdoor Adventure offers clinics to teach students climbing skills and techniques. Most clinics are designed for beginners; no experience needed.
Baylor Outdoor Adventure hosts two climbing events each year, one in the fall and one in the spring. Students travel from schools all over Texas to participate in the event and climb the ROCK at Baylor. Information on Chalk Up and Bear Climb may be found below.
Fall 2018: TBA
Chalk Up is an informal bouldering competition offered every fall. It is an unsanctioned event, intended to provide climbers with a fun, encouraging atmosphere. Baylor students, faculty/staff and alumni are welcome to come out and compete! Register up to the day of the event at the SLC Front Desk.
Bear Climb is Baylor Outdoor Adventure's premier, annual rock climbing and bouldering competition. Climbers compete on Baylor's rock wall, one of the tallest free-standing climbing walls in Texas, with 12 rope lanes and additional natural features for practice in crack climbing skills.
Beginner, intermediate and advanced climbers are all encouraged to compete in Bear Climb. All climbers are eligible for door prizes and must be present to win.
Questions regarding Bear Climb should be sent to Tommy Wiffler.
