| Description | Dr. Olufisayo Jejelowo Director and Chief Research Officer, Global Progressive Network, Houston, TX and Dr. Rene Laufer Associate Research Professor, CASPER "The Africa2Moon Mission - an Education and Science Initiative" Abstract: Africa is the world's second-largest and second-most-populous continent. Its population is the youngest among all the continents; 50% of Africans are 19 years old or younger! Africa is also very capable and starting to get onto its feet with 7 of the 10 fastest growing economies in the world last year. It is also a continent renowned for the resilience, industry and ingenuity of its people. Alas, this we sometimes forget, no more so then when confronted with the struggles of that continent. It's time to send African ingenuity to the Moon and provide future generations a reminder that it will always be there! The Africa2Moon Mission is an initiative for inspiration, education and science lead by South Africa based institutions: the University of Cape Town's SpaceLab and the Foundation for Space Development, supported by several African space companies and research organizations. The initiative started in November 2014 as an internet crowd funding effort to fund the initial preliminary phase to develop the full program; final mission concept and associated feasibility study; and outreach & public participation events for 2015. The feasibility study will be the starting point for the next phase of Africa2Moon, which will be an expanded outreach and participation program and a detailed final mission design to incorporate as many of the 54 African countries and collaborating partners from all over the world as possible. The speakers are two of the initial group of official Africa2Moon ambassadors to represent the program in their communities and support with their expertise and network.
