During the past decade, researchers in the field of memory and cognition have investigated “real world” applications of various student learning strategies. Some commonly used study techniques are almost worthless (though still time consuming), others are promising, and a few produce reliable, large scale benefits. I’ll review this recent research and offer a little background into why they work. Finally, I’ll offer practical advice you can share with your students when they ask, “Do you have any study tips you can recommend?”
