Description

Jesus and Gin:  Culture War in the Roaring Twenties

During the Roaring Twenties, religion played a major role in what we now call the culture war.  Protestants battled Catholics, liberals battled fundamentalists, and some of the highest profile preachers fell into scandal.  This course, led by Dr. Barry Hankins, will prove to be a rollicking ride through an era similar to our own, with sessions on Prohibition, obscenity, the Scopes (Monkey) Trial, J. Frank Norris, Aimee Semple McPherson, and the election of 1928
