Description | Wesley Schulz Conductor John Coons Actor/Narrator Prepare to be transfixed as the WSO presents Orchestral Magic. The program opens with Anna Clyne's This Midnight Hour, which was inspired by nocturnal and musical imagery found in two of her favorite poems. Propulsive rhythms and devilishly imaginative writing for large orchestra tell the mysterious story of one woman's journey in the depth of night. Next, Paul Dukas's symphonic poem The Sorcerer's Apprentice chronicles a young magician's hapless attempt to bring a broom to life to do his chores. Actor John Coons will join the orchestra to tell this tale made famous in Walt Disney's film, Fantasia! The program concludes with Hector Berlioz's intoxicating musical epic about one man's obsession in Symphonie fantastique. Expect to be entranced by the magic of the music! Conducting is Maestro Wesley Schulz, one of four finalists in the WSA's search for a new Music Director/Conductor. Widely recognized for his imaginative programming and spirited yet heartfelt music making with orchestras, Schulz's conducting has been deemed "spectacular." Schulz is Music Director and Conductor of the Auburn Symphony Orchestra (Wash.) and recently completed four successful seasons as the Associate Conductor of the North Carolina Symphony.
