DescriptionDid you know that distance learning dates back to the 1800s? In fact, the Society to Encourage Studies at Home, founded by Anna Eliot Ticknor in 1873, was the first distance learning school. Teaching and learning was conducted entirely via mail. Fast forward to 2020 and nearly six million students have enrolled in at least one online class. As the workforce demands continues to change, adults are looking toward higher education to stay competitive in the workplace. Adult learners both on-campus or online seek opportunities to take a hands-on approach in their own learning by fostering new skill sets that can be applied to their current or foreseeable work. This session will highlight several design and teaching considerations when creating a course with adult learning principles in mind. (Special Topic)
