|Description||Organized and sponsored by the Department of Physics at Baylor University, Science Thursdays is a series of one-hour talks on various scientific topics. No science background is required, only enthusiasm for and an open interest in science. |
Einstein’s Spacetime Ripples Captured!
Einstein’s spacetime ripples(gravitational waves) were finally detected by two detectors of the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory (LIGO) in 2015, 100 years after they were first predicted. Since
then, four more gravitational waves have been detected. The 2017 Nobel Prize was awarded
for their discovery. I shall give a basic review of gravitational waves and explain the challenges
for their detection.
Anzhong Wang (Ph.D., U. of Ioannina) is a Professor of Physics at Baylor University.
Join the speaker and guests for coffee and cookies prior to each lecture at 6:30 pm. Science Thursdays lectures are free and open to the public; however, admission to the museum is not included.
