Glimpses of the Spacetime Beyond the Big Bang

Despite the remarkable success of Einstein's theory in describing the dynamics of gravitational bodies in our Universe, its fundamental limitation is existence of singularities such as in black holes and the big bang. All known laws of physics end at these singularities and it has been expected that a quantum theory of gravity would provide insights on resolution of singularities. In this talk, we will discuss how in last decade developments in loop quantum gravity shed light on this fundamental problem. We will discuss many results which show that quantum gravitational effects can resolve singularities without any fine tuning or need of exotic matter.
