Description | The Martin Museum of Art at Baylor University will feature a selection of oil paintings by contemporary Texas artist, Sedrick Huckaby in Gallery I beginning September 11. Guided by his family and faith, Huckaby's artistic vision tells the story of his connections with his family members, including his grandmother who recently passed away. Many of his portraits include backgrounds of draped quilts that would eventually become the real subjects of his large paintings and the messengers of his stories. Using thick, impasto paint, and oversized canvases, Huckaby transforms the humble quilt into a heroic symbol of the power of tradition and faith. A gallery talk and reception for Sedrick Huckaby will be held at the Martin Museum of Art on October 12, 2012, from 5:30-7pm. These events are free and the public is cordially invited. |
