Martin Museum of Art to Feature Textile Work by Fiber Revolution
Date | July 10 - August 18, 2012 |
Location | Martin Museum of Art, Hooper-Schaefer Fine Arts Center |
Description | The Martin Museum of Art at Baylor University will feature textile artwork by Fiber Revolution beginning July 10. The exhibition is scheduled from July 10 to August 18 in Gallery II. Fiber Revolution is a network of professional textile artists whose goal is to educate the public about fiber art as an exciting art form. Although the art is constructed from fabric, it is not meant to lie at the foot of the bed, but rather to hang on the wall like an oil or watercolor painting. The artists, exhibiting their work under the Fiber Revolution name, use fiber as their medium - dying it, painting it, cutting it, tearing it, stamping it, fusing it and embellishing it. A gallery talk and silkscreen demonstration by fiber artist Carolyn Lee Vehslage will be at 1-3pm on July 19 at the Martin Museum of Art. This event is free and the public is cordially invited. Due to popular demand the “Selections from the Permanent Collection” exhibition, which showcases artwork from the museum’s permanent collection and recent acquisitions from the 2011-2012 academic year, will be extended July 10 through August 18. The Martin Museum of Art is located in the Hooper-Schaefer Fine Arts Center on the Baylor University campus. NEW HOURS are 10am-6pm Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. 10am-7:30pm on Thursday. 10am-4pm on Saturday. 12-4pm on Sunday. The museum is closed during university holidays. Admission is free and all events are open to the public, unless specified. For more information call 254-710-1867 or visit the museum website at www.baylor.edu/martinmuseum. |
