Nigerian Christian Songs Website Launch
Date | May 20, 2021 |
Time | 9:00 - 10:15 am |
Location | Zoom |
Description | What would it look like to build a church songbook from the bottom up, rather than the top down? How would a songbook look (and sound) if it were built around the perspectives of church-goers rather than denominational leaders? And what possibilities might an online, multimedia songbook afford that a printed songbook does not? Nigerian Christian Songs is an online digital songbook and songbook companion whose aim is to reflect the unique, complex, and multifaceted “music culture” of contemporary Nigerian Protestant Christians, particularly those within the Baptist tradition. During the Spring 2021 semester, students based in Nigeria and the USA have collaborated to build this resource which highlights the songs, styles, musical activities, and material culture of music-making in contemporary Nigerian churches. At the website launch and celebration, doctoral student creators will explain the methods of gathering data for the website, highlight the website's unique features, and suggest the potential uses of the site for Nigerian Christians along with other Christian communities worldwide. |
