Description | Learn about Waco’s original “fixer-uppers” from architectural historian and chair of the Department of Museum Studies at Baylor University, Kenneth Hafertepe. Attendees will get a glimpse of the surprising variety of styles and stories captured in the houses built by and for Wacoans through a discussion of his recently published book, Historic Homes of Waco, Texas. Focusing on the period from the 1850s – 1940s, Hafertepe discuss the dwellings in which people of Waco lived as well as informed hints about how they lived – everyone from the wealthiest merchants to the humblest day laborers. A book signing will take place following the lecture. An accompanying exhibit, At Home in Waco, featuring 30 images of the homes represented in the book, will be on display at the Mayborn Museum until April 2020. Included in the price of admission. Museum Members and Baylor University students receive free admission. |
