Biologically Inspired Solar Cells: A future for energy?
For years, solar power has been more of a pipe dream energy source than a realistic energy producer. Researchers have always been curious if there was a way to improve their well-known lack of efficiency. In the age of quantum mechanics, several new possibilities have been explored, including the quantum dot solar cell, organic materials, and other such technologies. This talk explores the possibility of using natural quantum mechanical mechanisms to further improve the efficiency of photovoltaic cells. Utilizing a dipole coupling interaction between two particles, the power output of a photo capture process can been greatly improved.
