Giant Planets Caught at Formation
The past five years have seen the first handful of directly-imaged extrasolar planet discoveries, with dozens more promised by instruments now being
commissioned. These planets offer the first window into outer solar systems, much like RV and transit searches have already revealed the
detailed properties of inner solar systems. In particular, young directlyimaged planets offer critical tests of planet-formation models that can't be matched by RV and transit surveys of mature stars.
