|Description||The Armstrong Browning Library's annual Benefactors Day Celebration will take place Thursday, October 4, at 3:30 pm in the library's Hankamer Treasure Room. The program will feature the opening of "Orphans of earthly love": Elizabeth Barrett Browning's Protest for Working Children, an exhibition marking the 175th anniversary of "The Cry of the Children." The exhibition was curated by Dr. Joshua King, Margarett Root Brown Chair in Robert Browning and Victorian Studies, and students in his Victorian poetry class. A reception will follow in the Cox Reception Hall. The event is free and open to the public.
This exhibition opening is part of Rhyme and Reform: Victorian Working-Class Poets & Elizabeth Barrett Browning's "The Cry of the Children," a series of talks, performances, and workshops sponsored by the Armstrong Browning Library at Baylor University and the Universities of Strathclyde in Scotland and Manchester in England.
