LocationMartin Museum of Art Hooper-Schaefer Fine Arts Center, 60 Baylor Ave, Waco, TX 76706
DescriptionJoin us as we examine a series of early nineteenth-century engravings, published in Wilhelm Gottlieb Becker’s Augusteum (1804-1811). This three-volume publication illustrates and describes the Greek and Roman antiquities of the Dresden collection, one of the oldest sets of ancient sculpture outside Italy, which is housed today in the Albertinum Museum in Dresden, Germany. This exhibition, guest curated by Baylor University’s Dr. Sean DeLouche and Dr. Nathan Elkins, will study the Augusteum engravings from the perspective of the ancient world and the Neoclassical Revival at the turn of the nineteenth century.
