Last month, a team of Portfolio Management Practicum students from Baylor earned second place in the Portfolio Manager’s Finalist competition at the Texas Investment Portfolio Symposium. Team members Amy Adams, Ryan Crews, Shubham Mittal and Travis Rothwell pitched their investment process to a panel of investment professionals at the competition held on SMU’s campus on Feb. 17.
“TIPS was a great opportunity to share what I have learned from the large cap practicum in portfolio management class,” team member Amy Adams said. “The experience gave me more confidence and a chance to demonstrate what we have been learning.”
The TIPS conference, which is in its 15th year, is a forum for students and faculty from Texas and southwestern universities with investment management curriculum. It gives students an opportunity to learn from and interact with investment industry professionals, as well as participate in competitions. In the Portfolio Manager's Finalist Competition, teams present their investment process in a manner similar to final presentations made by investment firms to win institutional business. Baylor was among teams from Texas Lutheran University, University of North Texas, Tulane University and Texas State University in the final round.
“Baylor has finished in the top three every year at TIPS,” said Brandon Treogle, investment professional and team instructor. “Our approach and the quality of the students have always resonated with the judges who are industry professionals.”
