Darrell M. West is vice president and director of Governance Studies and holder of the Douglas Dillon Chair at the Brookings Institution. He is founding director of the Brookings Center for Technology Innovation and Editor-in-Chief of TechTank. Before joining Brookings, Dr. West was the John Hazen White Professor of Political Science and Public Policy and Director of the Taubman Center for Public Policy at Brown University. He is the author or co-author of 22 books, the newest of which, The Future of Work: Robots, AI, and Automation, will be published by Brookings in July, 2018. Dr. West has won the American Political Science Association’s Don K. Price award for best book on technology and its Doris Graber award for best book on political communications. He has published more than three dozen scholarly articles in a wide range of academic journals. He has delivered many lectures in more than a dozen countries, and is quoted in leading news outlets. He holds an A.B. in political science from Miami University of Ohio and M.A. and Ph.D degrees in political science from Indiana University.
