Creating a Great Video

Part of the Baylor Youth Entrepreneur of the Year Award application involves creating and submitting a video along with your written materials. Please take a look at the information on this page for guidelines, tips and advice about creating your video.

Creating a video is a fun and easy experience. Videos should reflect your personality and unique style - feel free to have fun with the format and presentation. However, please be sure that all of the necessary content areas are covered.


What should my video include? View More Information

Videos should include the following information:

  • Basic Info:
    • Entrepreneur name, age, school name, company name
  • Company Presentation:
    • Problem that the product or service is solving / Need the product or service is fulfilling
    • How your product or service solves that problem / fulfills that need
    • Product demonstration including description of features and benefits
    • If/How your business has changed over time
    • Evidence of your business success which may include: Customer satisfaction, revenue/sales growth, number of employees, increased profits, or simply meeting your goals
  • Entrepreneur's Perspectives:
    • Describe or demonstrate what you do in your role
    • One or some of the business challenges you have faced and how you overcame them
    • What you learned throughout this process
    • What's the best part of doing what you do?
What is the application process? View More Information

  1. Students must submit a YouTube video and apply online by Feb. 13, 2018.
  2. Record a 3-4 minute video about you and your business.
  3. Upload the video to YouTube with the title 2018 Baylor YEA-(Your Business Name) and make a note of the link to the video.
  4. Submit the online application. Be sure to include the link to the YouTube video in the space provided on the application.
  5. You will receive a notice when your application has been submitted successfully.
    NOTE: It is a good idea to print out the application and complete all the sections on a separate Word document. Please be sure to notice the page limits on the narrative sections of the application. When completing the application you will be able to “cut and paste” the sections into the application form. This will make it easier to complete the application in one try since the system does not automatically save partially completed applications.
  6. All applicants will be notified via e-mail of first round results. If you are selected as a finalist, you and your school sponsor/counselor will be notified by March 2, 2018 at the e-mail addresses you provided on the application.

What is the live competition like? View More Information

Finalists will receive a special invitation packet by March 11th with information about Baylor Youth Entrepreneur Events April 11, 2018. You are encouraged to bring your parents to the competition. All competitors will need to be accompanied by a school sponsor and at least one parent. All finalists must attend the final competition at Baylor Youth Entrepreneur Days April 11, 2018. Student contestants will be expected to give a 5 minute presentation on their business and briefly answer questions from the judges. Award winners will be announced at a 2:00 p.m. reception following the competition. Then a tour of the campus highlighted with a Dr. Pepper Float reception in the Foster Campus for Business and Innovation with Dean Maness. Students and their Chaperones will be returned to McLane Stadium to pick up their cars and begin the trip home by 4:30 p.m.

How will the awards be handled? View More Information

The top three winning entrepreneurs in the Baylor YEA competition will receive a cash prize. First Place will receive $2,000, second place will receive $1,000 and third place will receive $500. All finalists will be presented with a Baylor Youth Entrepreneur of the Year Award and polo shirt.
