Ethics SLAM! is a competition for first year students in the Hankamer School of Business that is designed for students to practice courageously responding to ethical challenges that are situated in the context of meaningful relationships. The Ethics SLAM! is facilitated by the Christian Ethics and Leadership in Business Scholarship recipients.

Competition Procedures

Stage 1: Qualifying Work

  • "Finding Your Ethical Voice" lecture given to all BUS 1101 sections.
  • Ethical Dilemma response memo assigned to all students in the course.
  • Paul J. Meyer Leadership in Business Scholars collect and evaluate response memos.
  • Top four students are contacted to prepare for semi-final rounds. They are given possible ethical dilemmas to prepare for.

Stage 2: Semi-final Round

  • Top four students respond to ethical dilemmas live in front of the rest of the class. The choice of dilemma is by random draw.
  • The class audience votes via electronic response technology.
  • The two participates with the most votes move to the final round.

Stage 3: Final Round

  • The top two students alternate turns responding to new ethical dilemmas.
  • The class audience votes via electronic response technology.
  • The winner is announced and prizes are awarded.

Awards

  • First Place: $100 Gift Card to the Baylor Bookstore
  • Second Place: $50 Gift Card to the Baylor Bookstore
  • Third & Fourth Place: $25 Gift card to the Baylor Bookstore
