The following include the requirements for becoming an active member in BURST:
1. Fill out the New Member Form for new members or Returner Form for returning members.
2. Pay your dues. New members pay $25 and returning members pay $15. Dues cover the whole year and provide a shirt and funding for Research & Internship Day. For the Fall 2021 semester, dues will be accepted electronically through Paypal @baylorburst or baylorburst@gmail.com and in cash during our general meetings. The last day to pay dues for the Fall 2021 semester is at the 3rd general meeting on October 14th.

3. Get at least 16 points before the end of semester. You can check your points on the Google Points Record below.

1x Special Event (RID in the fall or URSA Scholars Week in the spring) +
4x Service (4 BURST service events or 5 outside hours, 1 hr = 1 pt) +
4x Journal Clubs +
7x other events (General Meetings, Socials, Workshops, etc)
= 16 points = Active Membership
To be considered an active member, you must accumulate 16 points over the course of the semester by attending a variety of events.
For members who have been active in BURST in the past and are currently involved in a research lab, this semester we will offer 6 points of credit for research and the remaining 10 points can be earned through any type of BURST event. The only required event is the Special Event. This reduced membership requirement is only available to members not in a leadership role—i.e. on the executive board or a committee. Leadership applications will be updated on this page once they become available (typically midsemester).
Leadership Positions:
Executive Member – lead a committee and directly plan events and programs for all BURST members, check out the Executive Board page for more info
Committee Member – become part of a team of students to host specific BURST events, all members are encouraged to serve on a committee
BURST committees include: Scientia Editorial Team, Journal Club Leaders, Academic Events, Social Events, Special Events, Resources, Publicity, Fundraising
