Instrumentation

Currently there are eight mass spectrometers accessible to the Baylor Science Building supported by the Center:

Synapt G2-S• Waters Synapt G2-S HDMS (Rooms E155R | C153): High resolution mass spectra (over 40,000) can be obtained in concert with with gas-phase ion mobility separations. Samples indtroduction may be acomplished via direct infusion or by a nano Acquity-UPLC system. Data generated in any of the Waters mass spectrometers present in the center can be analyzed in a dedicated processing computer that includes Protein Global Lynx Server (PLGS) intended for bottom up proteomic analysis.



Synapt• Waters Synapt HDMS (Room E156R): High resolution mass spectra (up to 17,000) can be obtained using a Waters Synapt HDMS. Ions can be separated in the Synapt mass spectrometer by quadrupole time of flight mass spectrometry or/and by gas-phase ion mobility separation. Samples can only be introduced into the Synapt by direct infusion.


Xevo TQS• Waters Xevo TQ-S (Room E156R): Nominal mass MS and MS/MS data can be obtained in a triple quadrupole Xevo TQ-S mass spectrometer. Samples can be introduced to the TQ-S by direct infusion or by an attached Acquity-UPLC system.



Orbitrap• Thermo Orbitrap Discovery (Room E156R): Direct infusion, high resolution mass spectra (up to 30,000) can be obtained using ESI, APCI/APPI and nano-ESI. A dedicated processing computer that includes Proteome Discoverer (proteomic bottom up analysis) and Sieve (identification of samples with statistical inter-sample differences) is available in E.156.R.


• Thermo Orbitrap Q-exactive Focus (Room E156R): High resolution mass spectra (up to 70,000) can be obtained via direct infusion (ESI, APCI/APPI, or nano-ESI) or via an Accela analytical-flow LC system. A dedicated processing computer that includes Proteome Discoverer (proteomic bottom up analysis) and Sieve (identification of samples with statistical inter-sample differences) is available in E.156.R.


DSQ• Thermo DSQ (Room C216): Electron ionization (EI) mass spectra can be obtained using a Thermo Scientific DSQ II. Samples can be introduced by a direct insertion probe or by using the attached Focus gas chromatograph. The DSQ is used for the advance Organic lab, but can be accessible to the BSB after training.


Agilent 7900 • Agilent ICP-MS 7900 (Room E159R): The Center supports a 7900 Agilent ICP-MS. This instrument can be used for trace level analysis of metals in samples at part-per-trillions concentration levels.






Agilent 6420 • Agilent LC-MS/MS 6420 (Room E155R): The Center supports an Agilent QqQ 6420. Samples can be introduced to the 6420 Agilent by direct infusion or by the use of an Agilent 1260 LC system.
