Application

1. What are the requirements to be admitted to Brooks College?
To be a student at Baylor University and be able to articulate why you would like to be a part of the community and mission of Brooks College.

2. Can a student who is in the Honors College live in Brooks College?
Brooks Residential College is not formally connected to the Honors College. Just as a student in the Honors College can choose to live in Collins or Martin rather than the Honors Residential College, he or she can live in Brooks College.

3. If I am planning on studying abroad during my two-year commitment, can I still apply to live in Brooks College?
If you are planning on studying abroad during the second year of your commitment to Brooks College, you should still go ahead and apply. Your Housing Contract will be suspended for the semester you are away from Baylor. Please note that if you study abroad in the Fall of your second year, we cannot always guarantee you a specific room for the following Spring when you return.

4. Who must sign a two-year commitment to live in Brooks College?
Incoming first year students will be required to sign a commitment to live on campus for two years.

5. Can I apply to another Living-Learning Center and Brooks College?
Yes, you can preference Brooks College and up to three other communities.

6. Do you have to be a student of the Honors College or have a minimum GPA to live in Brooks College?
Brooks Residential College does not require students to have a minimum GPA or be a member of the Honors College.

Culture

1. What is the ratio of men to women in Brooks College?
We expect for the ratio to be approximately 60% women and 40% men, as is representative of the student body of Baylor University.

2. Will residents of Brooks College go to Chapel in Brooks College instead of Waco Hall?
Students, faculty, and staff will be drawn to the chapel as a place for solitude, meditation and peace-and for singing the praises of the Lord. Morning and Evening Prayer services can be taken as an alternative to Chapel in Waco Hall. Please contact Spiritual Life for more information and registration requirements.

3. What will be the ratio of freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors?
We expect the ratio to be approximately 45% freshmen and 55% upper division students, however that will be largely determined by the number of returning residents.

4. Is there a scholarship available for students who live at Brooks Residential College?
At this time, Brooks College does not have any scholarships available for first year students. However, Baylor is offering first-year First Generation College Students a need-based scholarship if you live in a Living-Learning Program. Returning students will have the opportunity to apply for a small scholarship after their first year at Brooks College. Facilities

1. What are the approximate room dimensions in Brooks College?
Although we are unable to provide exact room dimensions for each room of Brooks College, below are measurements from two sample rooms. Please bear in mind that this is only a sample and rooms vary based on location in the building and due to architectural details. 2 Person Room: 13'x 11'; 4 Person Suite Room: 14'x 11'

2. We want to hang curtains, what are the dimensions of the windows?
Most windows in the building are 2' 11" wide by 4'7" tall. Windows on the fourth floor vary in size. Curtains are best hung by tension rods inside of the window frame. Mini-blinds are provided and must remain in the windows.

3. What kind of internet access is there in Brooks College?
All student rooms, lobby, and common areas have AirBear wireless access. Each resident is also provided with one high-speed Ethernet data port to connect personal computers to the residential network.

4. Is there carpet in the student rooms?
Yes, the rooms are carpeted. The bath and shower areas have ceramic tile.

5. What size are the beds?
All beds are Extra-long Twin beds which are adjustable height to allow ample storage under the bed.

6. Is the furniture movable?
The furniture is movable. Furniture must remain in the room/suite but may not be dismantled, stacked, or raised off the floor.

7. Will shower curtains be provided?
Yes, shower curtains will be provided.

8. Can I hang decorations on the walls?
Any decorating tools which damage surfaces (for example, carpet tape, double stick tape, glue, nails, staples, etc.) are prohibited. Plasti-tak and Command Strips are recommended for securing lightweight decorations to walls and doors in the residence halls.

9. What color are the walls and floors in the student rooms?
The carpet is multi-colored, but the predominant color is green. The tile in the entry and bath area is beige. The walls are cream colored.

10. Can students have microwaves or refrigerators in their rooms?
Each bedroom is allowed one small refrigerator, which must be 1.5 amps or less, no more than 36 inches tall and grounded. The only microwave allowed in student rooms are MicroFridges which are all-in-one units that have a refrigerator, freezer and microwave. 11. What furniture is provided in each room?
For each resident, there is an extra-long twin bed, desk, chair, end table, and small dresser.
