Ms. D. Diane Dillard is a board-certified commercial real estate attorney and professional third party mediator who practices law in Houston, Texas. Though most of her career has been spent in Houston, she also practiced several years in Brownsville, Texas. Before becoming a solo practitioner, Ms. Dillard worked at Vinson & Elkins and later founded the Dillard & Ray Law Firm, the first women-owned law firm in Houston. In 1998 she was presented with the Houston Chronicle’s Women on the Move Award for being one of Houston’s Top 10 Businesswomen. In 2015, she became the first woman to receive the Distinguished Real Estate Lawyer Lifetime Achievement Award, the highest honor awarded by the Real Estate Probate Trust Law Section of the State Bar of Texas.
Ms. Dillard received both an undergraduate degree (BA ’76, magna cum laude) and a law degree (JD ’79, cum laude) from Baylor University. She is a frequent author and speaker at continuing legal education programs sponsored by various law schools and bar associations. Ms. Dillard currently serves as a member of the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. In addition, she previously served six years on the Texas Board of Motor Vehicles. Ms. Dillard has also served on the Board of, and later as the president of, the Baylor University Alumni Association.
Ms. Dillard is married to Judge Andrew S. Hanen (JD ’78). They are active members of South Main Baptist Church and have one daughter, Kelly Hanen, who is also an attorney in Houston.
