Baylor Named a “Great College to Work For” for the 7th Straight Year

October 25, 2017

For the 7th consecutive year, Baylor University was named a “Great College to Work For” according to a survey by The Chronicle of Higher Education. The results are based on a survey of 232 colleges and universities, with only 79 institutions achieving this recognition.

The survey entails a two-part assessment process: an institutional audit that captures demographics and workplace policies, and a survey administered to faculty, administrators, and professional support staff. The primary factor in deciding what institutions made the list? Employee feedback.

In light of this honor, we asked some of our faculty and staff to tell us what working at Baylor University means to them.

“It means a deep satisfaction knowing that I am working with countless others who are committed to the same goal of preparing young women and men for worldwide leadership and service.”- John G. Bales, Director, University Development

“At Baylor I have a job I love and, I believe, fulfill a calling. Working with Baylor students — and we should never forget they are why we’re here — is the most rewarding thing I’ve ever done.” - Maxey Parrish, Senior Lecturer, Journalism, Public Relations and New Media

“Working for Baylor means not only am I valued for my intellect and teamwork, but also my family is valued through supportive University policies and activities.” - Dr. Stacey L. Smith, Director of Research Advancement, Office of Vice Provost for Research

“I enjoy working at Baylor because I have the opportunity to serve and give back to my alma mater. I genuinely enjoy coming to work each day because everyone I interact with, regardless of their department, is happy to be a part of this community.” - Jared Fuller, International Admissions Counselor, Office of Undergraduate Admissions

“What a privilege it is to serve alongside such talented and dedicated people to do one thing extraordinarily well — and that is to be a transformational presence in the lives of others. To me, this is the Baylor distinctive — a distinctive that is grounded in our Christian faith and made evident through our teaching, research, and service.” - Dr. Kevin P. Jackson, Vice President for Student Life

“I work at Baylor because Baylor is different than other schools. The work I do could be done for a myriad of nonprofit organizations. But we are to reflect the love and nature of Christ. I am not so naïve as to believe every student receives this at Baylor, but Baylor is intentional in offering Christ as the hope of life. No other school our size can claim this mission. This is why I work at Baylor.” - Susan Wommack, JD, Senior Director of Development, Baylor Law School

“Working at Baylor has been such a gift and honor. I feel loved, supported, encouraged and taken care of like a family member. The staff and faculty care about me far beyond my work outputs — they want to know my life and set me up to thrive here. I’m one of the youngest and newest in my department, but still feel like my ideas and work are valued by the much more seasoned faculty and staff around me.” - Katherine Diehl, Global Missions Leadership Program Manager, Diana R. Garland School of Social Work
