Career and Professional Development Launches Alumni Services

February 3, 2014

With a competitive job market and an unpredictable economy, career guidance is in high demand - specifically from college graduates looking to make the most of a hard-earned education. To meet that growing need among Baylor alumni, Career and Professional Development (CPD) is expanding its services to aid alumni.
"Not only will alumni have access to all the services CPD offered to them as students, but they will have personalized guidance for their needs," said Beth Wooten, director of career engagement, who was recently hired to head CPD's alumni services and has been working with alumni for more than nine years.
"I am really excited to be able to help with all stages of the professional life of our alumni," said Wooten. "The career and employment resources that CPD offers can really be beneficial to alumni in any phase of their career, from new graduates looking for their first job or a career mentor, to alumni who graduated more than 10 years ago," said Wooten.
Particularly helpful for alumni will be the database of employers and job listings that CPD offers through HireABear. There, alumni and students have access to more than 6,000 employer contacts and hundreds of job listings, in addition to free access to other premium career resources.
According to Wooten, resume critiques can also be very helpful for alumni. Many alumni who have been with one employer for several years need the extra help to make an outdated resume effective.
Wooten expects for CPD's alumni services to grow and expand as the need develops, offering more alumni-tailored resources. One such service she expects to develop is a mentorship program connecting alumni with current students.
"What it really comes down to is finding meaningful ways for alumni to connect to each other and to students," said Wooten.
