Baylor & Beyond Program Director
I was born in London and have lived in various locations throughout the UK, Cyprus, and the United States. I have also travelled extensively and have developed a passion for learning about culture and community.
I received my BA (hons) in English Literature from Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge, a Post Graduate Teaching Certificate from the Institute of Education in London, and my MA in Youth and Family Ministry from Lee University in Tennessee. After teaching in Europe for many years, I moved to the US with my husband in 2007 and began working in higher education shortly after. Together, we joined the Baylor family in 2012, where I worked in Campus Living and Learning for several years. My passion for global communities partnered with my commitment to education led me to the role of Program Director at Baylor & Beyond LLC in May 2019. I strive to create a real home and community for the North Russell residents and I love meeting students from all over the country and the world. In addition to travelling, I like to read, cook, bake, and watch movies, TV shows, and plays.
North Russell Residence Hall Director
My story starts with me growing up around Paris, Texas. My academic interests took me to Texas A&M University-Commerce where I studied History for my undergrad degree. Eventually, I had the wonderful opportunity to study abroad through my university and this experience changed my life. Ever since, I’ve had a passion for serving college students and getting them connected to opportunities where they can explore the world, its people, and themselves. I ended up coming to Baylor for my graduate degree so I do this work professionally.
I am married to another Baylor professional, and together we have several years of experience working in higher education. We have a small dog named “Theo” and we’re happy to share him with other residents of North Russell. One of my favorite parts of North Russell is that we have a strong lobby culture where many students often congregate, cook food in the kitchen, or hangout in the game room. It makes it easy to let little Theo play with other friends when there is so many active students around!
We look forward to meeting our North Russell residents each year, and we hope their housing experience is transformational through all the diverse groups of people who live here.
Baylor & Beyond Faculty Director
As the faculty director, my primary job in the hall is to coordinate our neighborhood program, mentor our neighborhood leaders, and make connections between our student groups and academic/co-curricular units on Baylor’s campus. Aside from this, I teach first- and second-year Spanish. I am also the faculty advisor for Baylor’s Gymnastics Club and Gamma Alpha Omega, a multi-cultural sorority. I was born and raised in a small Texas border town called San Juan. I left San Juan to attend Williams College in Massachusetts where I majored in English and Spanish. I speak both pretty proficiently! I received my MA in Spanish literature and linguists from Baylor. On my spare time, I like hiking, kayaking and yoga—preferably in locations abroad. My office is in Old Main 380 if ever you would like to chat.
North Russell Resident Chaplain
I am Eli Gutierrez, and I am originally from the beautiful city of Mexico City, where I was born and raised. I majored in History at UNAM (National University of Mexico). Currently, I am a student at Truett Theological Seminary (Baylor’s seminary). I love God with all of my heart and my main goal in life is to serve him. In the summer of 2018, I married Mariana, who is from Mexico City too. We love to sing, play music, cook Mexican food, and watch movies together. What we love most about BBLLC is the opportunity to know people from many different backgrounds who enrich our lives.
Baylor & Beyond Program Coordinator
I grew up just outside Dallas, TX, and I am so excited to be back in my home state after a five-year absence. I spent time in Northern Indiana at Taylor University, where I received my BA in International Studies, with a concentration in Peace, Reconciliation and Justice. It was through my studies in this area, along with the many chances to travel for both study and service to places like Italy, Ireland, Uganda, Ethiopia, and Brazil that I acquired a passion for cultural engagement and education, and how learning more about our world also teaches us more about ourselves and our God.
After my time in Indiana I moved to Greystones, Ireland to work as the Program Assistant for a study abroad program based just south of Dublin. It was there that I fell in love with study abroad, the history of Ireland, and the Irish coast.
Now my studies bring me to Baylor, as a Master’s student in the HESA program and the Program Coordinator for Baylor & Beyond. I love getting to be a part of the Baylor & Beyond community and serve the students of North Russell. In addition to school and work, I love literature, movies, baking, biking and camping, and I am always looking for more people to do these things with.
