Scholarship: Alfred & Ruth Evans Schp

Information: The Alfred Verlin Jr. and Ruth Downes Evans Family Endowed Scholarship Fund in Accounting and Finance was established in 2017 by Alfred V. Evans, Jr., of San Antonio, Texas.

Alfred Verlin Evans, Jr., was born September 5, 1945, in Waco, Texas, to Alfred V. Evans (1921- 1995), who began his education at Baylor University in 1938 and was graduated with a BBA in 1962, and Marjorie Grace Candage Evans (1923-2005).

During his career, Alfred earned an MBA from the University of Utah, obtained a CPA, and attended numerous DOD and Air Force schools, culminating with Air War College Non-Residents' Program in 1993. He was active in various professional organizations, and served many times as an officer in the American Society of Military Comptrollers. Additionally, he was an adjunct faculty of five colleges and universities, including Alabama State University in Montgomery, Alabama. He served over 25 years as a credit union volunteer, both on Boards of Directors and Supervisory Committees.

Ruth Downes (1945-2006) and Alfred were graduated from Pearsall, Texas, High School in May, 1964. They were married September 2, 1967, and had one son, Alfred Lenard Evans, and two granddaughters, Hannah Taylor Evans and Sarabeth Criswell Evans. Throughout their marriage, Ruth's loving spirit, outgoing personality, artistic talents, culinary skills, and sense of humor helped to build and maintain a positive, Christian home. Being adopted herself, Ruth had a passion to help and care for the homeless, abandoned, and forgotten of society.

Both Ruth and Al highly valued Christian education and used their skills and talents to serve, teach, and educate in order to enhance the quality of others' lives, and to serve Jesus Christ.
