Scholarship: Madalene Cain Grad SW Schp

Information: The Madalene Cain Endowed Scholarship Fund for Graduate Studies in Social Work was established in 2016 by Madalene Cain Charitable Foundation of San Antonio, Texas.

Madalene Cain left home at the age of 16 with only the clothes she was wearing and one dollar. She went to San Antonio to make a living and a home. Villa Maria Residence for girls provided her with housing until she had sufficient funds to live on her own. Because of Madalene's work ethic and enthusiasm, her employers taught her necessary skills and principles of sound financial management. After acquiring training in numerous business ventures, Madalene Cain became the first female stock broker in San Antonio, Texas. She passed away in February 2007 at the age of 92.

Madalene attributed her success, in part, to these kind charitable acts and wanted to do what she could to help others in similar situations. The Madalene Cain Charitable Foundation believed that establishing a scholarship in Social Work at an institution such as Baylor University furthered Madalene's goals.
