Scholarship: Guittard-Verlander-Voegtle Sch

Information: The Guittard-Verlander-Voegtle Endowed Scholarship Fund in History was established in 2016 by Patricia Verlander Guittard and Charles F. Guittard of Houston, Texas and Henry J. and Mary Guittard Voegtle of Dallas, Texas to provide assistance to deserving undergraduate students attending Baylor University, the same way the Guittard Fellowship assists graduate students. Mary and Charles dedicate the scholarship to the memory of their grandfather, Dr. Francis G. Guittard, the first chair of the history department at Baylor, their step grandmother Josephine Glenn Guittard ("Mama Josie"), and their parents, Chief Justice Clarence A. Guittard and Mary Louise Kee Guittard, both of whom graduated from Baylor.

Charles F. Guittard is a retired attorney, mediator, and arbitrator. He earned a B.A. degree cum laude from Baylor University in 1964 and his Juris Doctor from SMU. His wife Patricia Ann Verlander Guittard, a retired teacher, graduated from Centenary College in Shreveport and earned her master’s degree from the University of Texas at Dallas. Charles and Pat have three children: Steven, James, and Robert.

Henry J. and Mary Guittard Voegtle reside in Dallas, Texas and have one child, David. Mary is a law librarian and holds a Bachelor of Arts from Hendrix College and a Masters of Library Science from the University of North Texas. Her husband, Henry J. Voegtle, is an attorney in private practice specializing in civil litigation. He received his Bachelor of Arts from Florida International University and his Juris Doctor from SMU.

Comments: Preference to outstanding students who desire to teach history after graduation or seek an advanced degree in history

Criteria:  For Undergraduate History majors in the College of Arts & Sciences.

Minimum GPA: The University requires a minimum GPA of 2.50; however, individual departments may have more stringent academic requirements.

Need/Merit: Based on merit.
