Scholarship: Hays Phillips Physics Schp

Information: The Hays Phillips Family Endowed Scholarship Fund in Physics was established in 2015 by Debra Hays and Wesley M. Phillips of Katy, Texas.

Debra Hays Phillips earned a B.S. degree from Baylor University in 1980 and the M.S. degree from the Colorado School of Mines in 1985. Debra is a geophysical advisor for BHP Billiton in Houston, Texas. Prior to that, she worked as a senior geophysicist at BP America, Inc. from 1999 to 20111 and project geophysicist at Amoco Corporation from 1980 to 1999.

Wesley M. Phillips earned a M.S. degree from Michigan State University. He retired from Murphy Oil as a geophysical advisor. He previously worked at Amoco, BP and Kerr-McGee.

Debra and Wesley reside in Katy, Texas, and have two children: Forrest (B.S. '13) and Skyler, who is a member of the Baylor University Class of 2016. Forrest is married to Claire Cameron (B.A. '14).

Comments: Preference for UG Physics majors

Minimum GPA: The University requires a minimum GPA of 2.50; however, individual departments may have more stringent academic requirements.

Need/Merit: Based on merit.
