Scholarship: F Ray Wilson II HC Scholarship

Information: The F. Ray Wilson II Honors College Endowed Scholarship Fund was established in 2015 by Bill and Carol Neilson of Waco, Texas in memory of F. Ray Wilson II.

F. Ray Wilson II was born Aug. 1, 1941 in Wichita Falls to Forest Ray Sr. and Nancy Wilson. Ray was a 1966 graduate of Texas Wesleyan University, later earning his master's degree in biology from Texas Christian University in 1969 and his doctorate in physiology and biophysics from the University of Illinois in 1973. He joined the Baylor faculty as an assistant professor of biology that year, and named full professor in 1989. Ray was appointed director of the Honors Program in 2004.

During his three decades at Baylor, Ray was honored with numerous teaching awards, including his selection by the 1997 senior class as the Collins Outstanding Professor. He also was honored seven times by Mortar Board as "Top Professor" and was named to the academic honor society's Circle of Achievement for Outstanding Professors eight times. In November 2003, Ray was designated as Master Teacher, the highest honor granted to Baylor faculty members.

Comments: Preference for this scholarship is given to first generation college students or those pursuing a premedical program leading to a career in medicine.

Criteria:  For Undergraduate students in the Honors College.

Minimum GPA: The University requires a minimum GPA of 2.50; however, individual departments may have more stringent academic requirements.
