Ballou Endowed Scholarship Fund for the School of Education was established by Bill Ballou of Tyler, Texas along with his daughter, Betsy Ballou of Newton, Mississippi and his son, Will Ballou of Meridian, Mississippi in memory of Avonnell, wife and mother.

Avonnell Bolton was born and raised in Shreveport, Louisiana. She majored in elementary education at Baylor University and met Bill during their freshman English class.
