Scholarship: Dr Wilma Pitts Griffin Schp

Information: The Dr. Wilma Pitts Griffin Scholarship was established in 2011 by the estate of Sadie Jo Black of Waco, Texas in honor of Dr. Wilma Pitts Griffin. Sadie Jo Black and Wilma Griffin taught together in the department of family and consumer sciences at Baylor University from 1987 through 1992. They remained close friends until Ms. Black’s death on December 5, 2010. Dr. Pitts earned a B.S. degree from the University of North Texas in 1958 and an M.A. degree in 1972 and a Ph.D. degree in 1976 from the University of Texas at Austin. She is an Alumni-By-Choice of Baylor University and served as profession, chair and holder of the Mary Gibbs Jones Chair of Family and Consumer Sciences during her tenure at Baylor. Sadie Jo Black earned a B.S. degree from Baylor University in 1950 and was an assistant professor in the family and consumer sciences department at Baylor for 35 years.

Criteria:  For Undergraduate students in the Human Sciences & Design department.

Minimum GPA: The University requires a minimum GPA of 2.50; however, individual departments may have more stringent academic requirements.

Need/Merit: Based on need and merit.
