College of Arts & Sciences faculty members Dr. Jane Damron (communication), Dr. Dan Hanchey (classics) and Dr. Cheolho Sim (biology) are among the 10 faculty members named Baylor Fellows for 2019-2020. The faculty selected as Fellows each year excel in teaching and a desire to transform student thinking through innovation.

Dr. Steve Forman
Dr. Steve Forman, professor of geosciences, received the Farouk el-Baz Award in Desert Research from the Geological Society of America. Over his career, Forman has studied droughts on the American Great Plains and has done research in deserts in such places as Peru, Argentina, Kenya and western Australia.

Dr. Howard Lee
One of Baylor’s most decorated young faculty members — Dr. Howard Lee, assistant professor of physics — has gained more national recognition for his research efforts. Lee has already received the Young Faculty Award (YFA) from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). Now, Lee is among the 20-30 percent of YFA winners to qualify for a DARPA Director Fellowship, given to those demonstrating exceptional performance on their research projects.

Dr. Amanda Hering
Dr. Amanda Hering, associate professor of statistical science, is part of a national research consortium to transform the U.S. water system through desalination. Baylor has partnered with four Department of Energy laboratories and more than a dozen universities in a research alliance to address the nation’s water security issues through desalination and will share in a $100 million grant funding the project for five years. Hering is the site director of the Baylor team.

Dr. Mia Moody-Ramirez
Dr. Mia Moody-Ramirez, chair and professor of journalism, public relations and new media, was honored as Baylor Newsmaker of the Year for 2018-2019. Moody-Ramirez, shown here with President Linda Livingstone, Ph.D., received the second annual award from Baylor Media and Public Relations for having her research and expertise play a part in more than 200 significant news stories around the world during the year.
