About the College of Arts & Sciences

The College of Arts & Sciences is Baylor University’s oldest and largest academic division, consisting of 25 academic departments and seven academic centers and institutes. The more than 5,000 courses taught in the College are the foundation upon which all Baylor students’ educational experiences build, and span disciplines from the arts and humanities to the social and natural sciences. The College offers outstanding master’s and doctoral programs, many of them nationally ranked, across all Arts & Sciences disciplines.

Baylor Undergraduates and Faculty Mentors Honored for Outstanding Research Projects Presented During URSA Scholars Week
WACO, Texas (May 3, 2018) – More than 100 Baylor University students were honored recently for their outstanding research presented in March during the 10th annual Undergraduate Research and Scholarly Achievement (URSA) program’s Scholars Week. The undergraduate researchers, along with their faculty mentors and program leaders, received awards for outstanding platform and poster presentations and for significant contributions to URSA and Scholars Week at a reception April 19 on the Baylor campus.

Baylor Classics Professors Selected For Prestigious PROSE Award
WACO, Texas (May 1, 2018) — Two Baylor faculty members recently received the 2018 American Publishers Award for Professional and Scholarly Excellence (PROSE) Award in Classics. The PROSE Awards annually recognize the best in professional and scholarly publishing by bringing attention to distinguished books, journals and electronic content in 58 categories.

New Baylor Certificate Program Aims to Increase Spanish Proficiency Among Future Healthcare Professionals
The new Certificate in Spanish for Healthcare Professions program in the Baylor University College of Arts & Sciences gives future healthcare professionals the opportunity to learn medical Spanish and become more familiar with Hispanic culture. This knowledge will allow them to better communicate and empathize with the Hispanic patients they will serve.

Baylor Mourns Passing of Bill Hillis, M.D., Longtime Professor and Administrator Who Mentored Generations of Prehealth Students
WACO, Texas (April 30, 2018) – Baylor University is mourning the passing of William D. (Bill) Hillis, B.S. ’53, M.D., a medical physician and scientific researcher who served more than 30 years as a professor and administrator at Baylor. Hillis passed away April 26.
