Overview and Facilities

The BFA concentration in Photography offers students the opportunity to study the fine art applications of photography within the context of a thriving studio arts program. Students are given the unique ability to gain their technical skills while working in both wet lab and state-of-the-art digital facilities. Students begin their photographic education by learning traditional and alternative darkroom processes in our recently remodeled fourteen-station darkroom. They continue their education in our newly updated fourteen-station digital lab, complete with studio lighting and 44" digital printing capability.

Whether still, moving, digital or analog, lens-based media is constantly changing and redefining itself within a set of technical, conceptual and aesthetic conditions--placing it in much of the critical discourse in fine art today. Students pursuing a BFA concentration in photography will gain a strong foundation in wet lab and digital practices while learning techniques in image capturing, digital assessment, and editing software. Students will experience an environment that inspires creativity, intellectual curiosity, freedom of expression, and critical thinking.

Students will graduate ready to pursue any variety of careers in art and photography related fields, or to continue their fine art studies at the graduate level.
