Carolyn Grigsby Feather
Carolyn Grigsby Feather
2014-2015 Woman of Distinction
Carolyn Grigsby Feather (BU '54) has given much of her life energies to further the mission of Baylor. Carolyn began her college years at Baylor as a young 16-year-old freshman from Longview, Texas. She became involved in many activities on campus including the BRH Choir, the BSU, the Friday Night Missions, 'Singspiration', 'Invincibles', and the Summer Mission Programs. And to top it off, her freshman year she was elected Rodeo Queen! Carolyn's academic honors included Sigma Tau Delta and Alpha Chi.
In the summer of 1951, while enjoying a Baylor BSU trip to Ridgecrest Baptist Assembly, Carolyn met a young Southwestern Seminary student named Bob Feather, who was a Baylor Graduate and former Baylor Yell Leader. She was immediately aware of his enthusiasm and commitment to his alma mater. Two years later, they were married on June 12, 1953 and began his first church assignment in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
Carolyn has a servant's heart and is happiest when opportunities of service are on her calendar! Her involvement with the Dallas Baylor Women's Council has had various roles and volunteer responsibilities. She has been an active member since 1987, which was the charter year of the Dallas Baylor Women’s Council. Interestingly, 12 of those years, she drove from Waco in order to participate! While serving as a Patron Advisor since 1999 to the present, her volunteer responsibilities have included: Modeling for style show luncheons, cooking & serving at Young Grads Christmas, filling Easter eggs for Momma Bears, hand-addressing invitations, assembling table decorations, setting-up for events, serving as a greeter for events and always donating Baylor memorabilia for the Auction. Most recently, she has been an active member of the Task Force for the Louise Harrington School of Nursing.
As a dynamic couple, Bob and Carolyn have invested their time and talents to support their alma mater. They have jointly Co-chaired the Heritage Club, supported the Barnabas Club, the Baylor Bear Foundation, the Student Foundation Scholarships, the Development Council and the 1845 Society. Since 1980, they have participated in every capital campaign for new buildings on the campus. In 1999, they funded and provided an Athletic Endowed Scholarship in their name. At the annual Athletic Banquet, they have considered it a great privilege to meet each year’s recipient.
Carolyn has always been the supportive wife, encourager and active participant in Bob's ministry career. They began their Texas journey at Wilshire Baptist Church for 8 years. God continued to use their gifts for His service at Park Cities Baptist Church for the subsequent 15 years. In continuing their ministry, they cherish the memorable 3 years spent alongside the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association as Bob assumed the responsibilities of the Executive Vice President for the World Evangelism and Christian Education Fund. During this period, Carolyn actively volunteered at the Acapulco Children's Home. Baylor University hired Bob in 1980 where for the next 15 years he was the Vice President for External Affairs. During those years as Bob was employed with Baylor, Carolyn enjoyed the privilege to sponsor the Pi Beta Phi Sorority chapter on Baylor Campus. These past 15 years, Bob and Carolyn have returned to Dallas where Bob is now employed as a consultant by the Texas Baptist Missions Foundation. Currently, they are active members again at Park Cities Baptist Church. Carolyn is a passionate volunteer at Brother Bill's Helping Hand ministry and Buckner's Children's Home where she finds numerous ways to serve God and show His love to those in need.
As a rich blessing from God, Carolyn and Bob have recently celebrated 61 years of marriage. The joys of their life have revolved around their precious family and Baylor related activities. Carolyn and Bob have two children: Bobby and his wife Lisa and their two daughters, Victoria and Susanna Feather; and Sunni and her husband, Britt and their family: Blake and his wife Mollie, Chad and his wife Lizzy, Ross and Caroline Brookshire. Anyone who knows Bob and Carolyn have certainly heard lively stories of their 6 grandchildren and two beautiful granddaughters-in-law! Their newest blessing is a most anticipated first great-grandson due to arrive in January 2015!
Baylor Women’s Council of Dallas is honored to name Carolyn Feather as the Woman of Distinction for 2014.
